Maryam Valis is my pseudonym, though most people call me Mary, derived from my second given name.

I was born in Eastern Europe during the communist era and later emigrated to Western Europe, where I have lived ever since.

Writing was never an obvious path for me. During my formative years, stability was considered essential, and I followed a professional career that reflected that mindset. Still, the experience of growing up under a system shaped by control, caution, and quiet conformity left a lasting impression.

Breaking away from that psychological conditioning—learning to live and think freely—is a theme that continues to influence my writing.

Today, I write alongside my profession. My stories are not traditional thrillers or romances, but stories that explore universal emotions, psychological tension, and the complexities people carry within themselves.
